Polari Slang Phrases Typographic Poster
As Julian and Sandy from ‘Round The Horne’ would say, “How bona to vada your dolly old eek”. Polari was introduced to the masses through the BBC’s 1960s radio show ‘Round The Horne’, but far from being a made up language from the pen of the comedy writers Barry Took and Marty Feldman, Polari’s origins go back to at least the 19th century. Polari was a slang language used by many in the theatre, circuses and fairgrounds, and was also used in gay subculture.
Fans of Julian and Sandy will be familiar with many of the phrases on this art print, and will hopefully learn a few more to help expand their Polari vocabulary.
